The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) spread festive cheer this week by distributing Christmas gifts to approximately 600 children from the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) throughout Fiji, as part of their Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive. The celebrations took place in various locations, including Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa.
The event brought immense joy to the children, whose laughter filled the air, embodying the spirit of the holiday season. PRF Founder Amitesh Deo emphasized that the initiative serves as a reminder to adults about the simple joys of childhood, where happiness can be found in small things, and the magical essence of Christmas can thrive even in difficult times.
Deo further explained that the drive aims not only to provide gifts but also to instill hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging in families often overlooked. He highlighted the vital role that CPR plays in Fiji’s recycling ecosystem by collecting recyclables under challenging conditions. Many families in these communities face poverty, where basic necessities take precedence over toys and school supplies. This gift drive endeavors to alleviate some of that burden and to affirm every child’s right to experience the magic of Christmas.
The goal of this year’s campaign is to ensure that children not only receive toys but also essential stationery to prepare them adequately for the upcoming school year. “It’s about restoring dignity to these families and ensuring their children feel valued and recognized within the community,” said Deo.
PRF expressed their gratitude to various generous partners and individuals who contributed to the success of this initiative, including Pacific Energy, Vinod Patel & Company Ltd, Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Tourism Fiji, and many others. Notably, this year marks the first time Labasa has been included in the Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive, expanding PRF’s reach and impact across Fiji.
In summary, the PRF’s initiative not only brings joy and excitement to children but also fosters a sense of community and recognition for the crucial work of CPR families in the recycling ecosystem. Such initiatives are essential in reminding society of the importance of compassion and support during the festive season, creating a hopeful outlook for a brighter future for these children.
