Timoci Matanimeke, a 20-year-old man, has received a life sentence for the murder of a 56-year-old individual on Christmas Eve two years ago. During the sentencing, High Court Judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull emphasized that Matanimeke must serve a minimum of 14 years before he can apply for parole.
In addition to the life sentence for murder, Matanimeke was also sentenced to nine years for robbery and three months for criminal trespass, with all these sentences to be served concurrently. The court factored in the two years he has already spent in custody while awaiting trial.
Matanimeke has the right to appeal his sentence, and he has been granted 30 days to do so. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violent crime and the judicial system’s commitment to delivering justice for victims and their families.
