Christmas Drug Bust: Six Men in Custody as Police Ramp Up Operations

Six men are currently in police custody pending drug analysis after they were allegedly discovered with marijuana on Christmas Day. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Fiji Police Force to crack down on illicit drugs during the festive season.

In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua, Suva, was apprehended with seven sachets of what is believed to be marijuana, reportedly wrapped in aluminum foil. Similarly, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Qauia, Lami, for possessing a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Moreover, police arrested a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, who had 20 sachets of substances believed to be marijuana also wrapped in aluminum foil.

Additionally, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were caught in Valelevu, Nasinu, with two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for allegedly having five sachets of dried leaves presumed to be marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.

As their operations continue, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the police will remain vigilant against opportunists in picnic areas and local communities.

This proactive approach by the Fiji Police highlights their commitment to safeguarding public safety and health, particularly during times when communities are more active in celebration and recreation. The ongoing efforts illustrate a concerted action to mitigate drug-related issues, fostering a safer environment for all citizens.
