Christmas Drug Bust: Six Men Arrested in Fiji

Six men are currently in police custody pending drug analysis after being caught with marijuana on Christmas Day. This enforcement action by the Fiji Police Force is part of their ongoing efforts to combat the trafficking and use of illicit drugs during the holiday season.

In the Southern Division, police apprehended a 38-year-old unemployed individual in Nabua, Suva, who was found with seven sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. A 24-year-old unemployed man was also arrested in Qauia, Lami, after police discovered a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found in possession of 20 sachets of similar substances.

Additionally, two men from Vusuya, Kuku near Nausori Town were arrested at Valelevu, Nasinu, after allegedly being found with two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for having five sachets of marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that police will remain vigilant, particularly in picnic areas and local communities, to deter opportunistic drug-related activities during the festive period.

This proactive approach from law enforcement underscores a commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing drug-related issues within the community, particularly during a time when gatherings and celebrations increase.
