Six individuals are currently in police custody as investigations continue into their alleged possession of marijuana on Christmas Day. The arrests are part of an ongoing effort by the Fiji Police Force to combat illegal drug activities, particularly during the festive season.
In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man was apprehended in Nabua, Suva, with seven sachets of what authorities suspect to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. During a raid in Qauia, Lami, another arrest was made involving a 24-year-old unemployed man found with a branch of dried leaves also believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was discovered with 20 sachets of dried leaves in a similar state.
In a separate incident, two individuals from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were arrested in Valelevu, Nasinu, for purportedly possessing two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested with five sachets of suspected marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu has emphasized that law enforcement will remain vigilant for drug-related activities, especially in public areas popular for picnicking and community gatherings.
