On Christmas Day, authorities arrested six individuals for possessing illegal drugs in various locations. Among the arrests, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was caught with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, which are believed to be marijuana. A 24-year-old man from Qauia, Lami, was apprehended with a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana as well.
In Valelevu, police detained two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, who were found with two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. A 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was also arrested with 20 sachets of leaves similarly packaged, presumed to be marijuana. Additionally, in Lautoka, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka was found in possession of five sachets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that police remained vigilant in conducting drug checks throughout the Christmas festivities. He noted that law enforcement agencies would continue to monitor public areas and communities for any illicit drug activities.
All six individuals are currently in police custody as investigations proceed, and drug analyses are pending.
