On Christmas Day, law enforcement made a significant impact by arresting six individuals for drug possession.
A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was detained after officers found seven sachets of dried leaves, wrapped in aluminum foil, which were believed to be marijuana. Similarly, a 24-year-old man from Qauia, Lami, was apprehended with a branch of dried leaves thought to be marijuana as well.
Two men, aged 40 and 44, from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested in Valelevu after officers discovered two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine. In addition, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found in possession of 20 sachets of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana. Lastly, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested with five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu noted that law enforcement would continue its drug checks throughout the day, particularly in picnic spots and community areas, to deter any potential illicit activities during the holiday season.
All six suspects remain in police custody as authorities await further drug analysis while investigations proceed.
This proactive stance by law enforcement underscores the importance of maintaining community safety, particularly during festive times when drug use can increase. It reflects a commitment to tackling substance abuse and promoting a safer environment for all.
