Christmas Day Drug Bust: Six Arrested in Surprise Operation

On Christmas Day, six individuals were apprehended for possession of illicit drugs in various locations. A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was discovered with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, suspected to be marijuana. Similarly, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia, Lami, was found in possession of a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana during a police search.

In Valelevu, two men aged 44 and 40 from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested after authorities found two zip lock plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Furthermore, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, also believed to be marijuana. In Lautoka, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka faced apprehension for possessing five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, thought to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu stated that the police conducted checks for drug possession throughout Christmas Day and will continue their vigilance at picnic spots and community areas. The six suspects are currently in police custody as investigations proceed, with drug analysis pending.

This proactive approach by the police highlights their commitment to maintaining safety and order within the community, particularly during festive times when the potential for drug-related incidents may increase. The ongoing efforts aim not only to address drug possession but also to create a safer environment for everyone.
