Six individuals were apprehended on Christmas Day for allegedly possessing illicit drugs. Among those arrested, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was discovered with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, suspected to be marijuana. Additionally, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia, Lami, was found with a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana after being searched by police.
Authorities also detained two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, who were arrested in Valelevu after they were found in possession of two zip-lock plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine. In another case, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, had 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, also believed to be marijuana. Lastly, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka in Lautoka was caught with five sachets of dried leaves wrapped similarly.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized that police continued their drug checks throughout Christmas Day. He noted that police teams are expected to persist in monitoring picnic spots and local communities for any wrongdoing.
All six suspects are currently in police custody as they await drug analysis, and investigations are ongoing.
