On Christmas Day, law enforcement authorities arrested six individuals on drug possession charges. The arrests occurred in various locations, highlighting ongoing efforts by the police to combat illicit drug use during the holiday season.
A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was apprehended with seven sachets of dried leaves, packaged in aluminum foil, that are suspected to be marijuana. Similarly, a 24-year-old unemployed individual from Qauia, Lami, had a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana discovered during a police search.
In Valelevu, two men, aged 44 and 40 from Vusuya, Nausori, were found in possession of two zip lock bags containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with twenty sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, again believed to be marijuana. In a separate incident in Lautoka, a 50-year-old man from Tomuka was taken into custody for possessing five sachets of dried leaves, also thought to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu stated that police continued rigorous drug checks throughout Christmas Day. He further indicated that police teams would keep vigilant, focusing on popular picnic spots and communities to prevent drug-related activities.
All six suspects remain in police custody as investigations progress, with drug analysis pending.
