On Christmas Day, six individuals were apprehended for possessing illicit drugs in various locations. Among those arrested was a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua, who was found with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, suspected to be marijuana. Another suspect, a 24-year-old unemployed male from Qauia, Lami, was discovered to have a branch of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana.
In Valelevu, police arrested a 44-year-old and a 40-year-old man from Vusuya, Nausori, after they were found with two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance, thought to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana. Lastly, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka in Lautoka was caught with five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu reported that police continued their drug checks throughout Christmas Day. He indicated that police teams will remain vigilant in monitoring picnic spots and communities in the following days.
Currently, all six suspects are in police custody as they await drug analysis, and investigations are ongoing.
