Six individuals were apprehended on Christmas Day for possessing illegal substances.
Among those arrested, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was found with seven sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. A 24-year-old man from Qauia, Lami, was also caught with a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
Further arrests included two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, who were taken into custody in Valelevu after possessing two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was arrested with 20 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, while a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka in Lautoka was found with five sachets of the same substance.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that police conducted rigorous drug checks throughout Christmas Day and will maintain their vigilance in popular picnic areas and communities. He assured that all six individuals are currently in custody and awaiting drug analysis as investigations progress.
