On Christmas Day, six individuals were apprehended for drug possession, highlighting ongoing issues related to illicit substances. A 38-year-old man from Nabua was discovered with seven sachets of what is believed to be marijuana. In a similar incident, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia was found with a branch of dried leaves also suspected to be marijuana.

Additionally, two men, aged 44 and 40, were arrested in Valelevu, Nausori, where officers seized two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. A 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found in possession of 20 sachets of what is suspected to be marijuana, while a 50-year-old from Tomuka in Lautoka was arrested with five sachets of the same.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the police’s commitment to conducting drug checks, particularly in areas known for picnics and community gatherings, and confirmed that all six suspects are in custody while investigations continue and drug analysis is conducted.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in tackling drug-related offenses within the community. While it is disheartening to see such activities, the vigilant response from law enforcement illustrates a proactive approach to maintaining public safety and enforcing drug laws. By continuing these checks, authorities aim to deter future offenses and foster a safer environment for all.
