The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) celebrated the festive season by bringing joy to around 600 children involved in the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) across Fiji, by distributing Christmas gifts as part of their Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive. This year, children from Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa received presents, illuminating their faces with joy and filling the atmosphere with laughter, which encapsulated the true spirit of Christmas.

Amitesh Deo, founder of PRF, emphasized that this initiative serves as a heartfelt reminder to adults of the joy found in being a child, highlighting the importance of imagination and the possibility of miracles, especially in difficult times. He expressed that the drive aims to spread happiness and joy, reinforcing the essence of Christmas amid global challenges.

Launched in 2022, PRF’s Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive extends beyond simply providing gifts; its core mission is to instill hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging in children and families who are often marginalized. Deo acknowledged that CPR plays an essential role in Fiji’s recycling efforts, collecting recyclables from various locations under tough circumstances. Many families supported by CPR live in poverty where basic needs often overshadow the importance of toys or school supplies.

The initiative aims to alleviate that burden, ensuring that every child feels valued and receives a gift during Christmas. In addition to toys, this year’s drive also focuses on providing essential school stationery to help prepare children for the upcoming school year.

Deo further stressed that the initiative is about restoring dignity and recognition to families involved in recycling. He encouraged society to support these families, affirming that gifts should symbolize hope and recognition.

PRF expressed immense gratitude to the many generous partners and supporters of the drive, which included various organizations and individuals committed to making a difference. This year marked a significant step, as the Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive reached Labasa for the first time, broadening its impact across Fiji.

In essence, this initiative is a shining example of community spirit and goodwill, reflecting how collective efforts can foster hope and joy for those in need during the holiday season. By expanding its reach and inclusivity, PRF showcases the power of generosity in bringing smiles to children’s faces, underscoring the importance of caring for one another, especially during festive times.
