The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) spread joy this week as approximately 600 children from the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) throughout Fiji were delighted with Christmas gifts during the foundation’s Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive. Locations such as Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa were part of this heartwarming initiative.
As the children received their gifts, their smiles and laughter filled the atmosphere, embodying the spirit of the festive season. PRF Founder Amitesh Deo emphasized that this drive serves as a reminder of the simple joys of childhood—where happiness is found in small things and imagination knows no bounds. He reflected on the true meaning of Christmas: to spread joy and happiness, regardless of the world’s circumstances.
Deo noted, “It was all smiles and excitement,” sharing that the happiness reflected in the children’s eyes reinforces the reason for this initiative—to ensure their Christmas experience is filled with magic.
Since its inception in 2022, PRF’s Christmas Drive has been about more than just gift-giving; it aims to instill hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging in children and families who are often neglected. The CPR play a vital role in Fiji’s recycling efforts, collecting recyclables from dumpsites and public areas while facing numerous challenges.
Many families served by CPR live in poverty, where basic needs like food and shelter often overshadow the need for school supplies and toys. Often, they salvage discarded items to bring a smile to their children during Christmas. This initiative alleviates that burden by affirming that every child is deserving of a Christmas gift.
The goal for this year’s drive is to ensure that the children not only receive toys but also essential school supplies as they prepare for the upcoming academic year. Deo stressed that this initiative represents more than just a seasonal gift; it’s about restoring dignity and recognition to families who contribute significantly to recycling efforts within the community.
PRF expresses sincere gratitude towards its supporters, including numerous organizations and individuals whose generosity has made this drive possible. Notably, the program has expanded its reach to Labasa for the first time this year, broadening its impact across Fiji.
This heartwarming initiative reflects the power of community support and the spirit of giving, providing hope and joy to those who need it the most at this festive time of year.
In summary, the PRF continues to promote awareness about the vital contributions of recycling communities in Fiji while ensuring that the children of these families feel valued and cared for during Christmas.
