As unfavorable weather conditions approach this Christmas, the Fiji Police Force is urging the public to exercise caution. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has reported that water levels are beginning to rise in certain areas, prompting a warning to parents to prevent their children from playing in flooded waters.
“The Weather Office has issued an advisory for the upcoming days, and we are already receiving reports of flooding in some regions,” stated ACP Driu. He emphasized the importance of parental vigilance, highlighting past incidents where parents have faced repercussions for allowing their children near hazardous waters.
The police will be actively monitoring the situation, particularly in areas impacted by flooding, to ensure safety during the Christmas festivities. “It’s Christmas Eve, and we want to avoid any unfortunate incidents,” Driu added.
He is encouraging a collective approach where community members keep an eye out for each other as they celebrate Christmas.
This proactive stance by the Fiji Police Force underscores the importance of safety and community awareness during potentially dangerous weather conditions. It serves as a reminder that a united effort can help ensure everyone’s well-being during the holiday season.
