The Fiji Police Force is emphasizing the need for heightened caution as the country experiences heavy rainfall and flooding during the Christmas season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has expressed concern about rising water levels and is urging parents to keep their children away from flooded areas for their safety.

Driu highlighted the crucial nature of this advisory, recalling previous incidents where parents faced consequences for not ensuring their children’s safety in similar situations. He noted that the Weather Office has issued a warning for the coming days, and there have already been reports of flooding in various regions.

In an effort to minimize accidents, police will actively monitor flooded locations throughout the festive period. “We want to ensure that there are no unfortunate incidents, especially on Christmas Eve,” stated ACP Driu.

He also called for community cooperation to maintain safety during these challenging weather conditions. By working together and staying vigilant, the community can help protect its members during this holiday season.

This article serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety guidelines during adverse weather conditions, especially during a time of celebration like Christmas. By remaining cautious and vigilant, families can enjoy the holiday season while keeping everyone safe.
