A Chinese citizen, Bi Baodang, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in Suva, Fiji, with a minimum of 20 years for the attempted murder of Qu Guang Qing. The ruling, made by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu, comes after it was noted that there is no bilateral agreement between China and Fiji that would allow for the transfer of convicted Chinese nationals to serve their sentences in China.

In the incident that led to the conviction, records indicate that on August 2, 2022, Qu Guang Qing was ambushed by Bi, who emerged from the back seat of his vehicle. Bi confronted Qing regarding perceived grievances and brandished a knife, subsequently stabbing him in the chest. Medical evaluations reported that the stab wound was potentially life-threatening and likely caused by a sharp weapon.
