China is taking significant strides in promoting global awareness of services and trade. Over the past 11 years, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), attracting participants from around the world. The 12th edition of this prominent event occurred from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing.
Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has evolved into one of the largest service fairs globally, and this year was no exception. The event featured participation from 85 countries, with numerous embassies present. However, it was noted that Fiji was not represented, which was disappointing as the island nation could have benefited from the event by exploring trade opportunities and showcasing its unique culture.
During this year’s fair, 90 journalists from 83 countries, including three representatives from the Pacific Islands, participated in the latter half of the China International Press Communication Centre program. Their attendance allowed them to cover and share stories about CIFTIS with audiences worldwide.
The fair was lively, with a broad array of booths featuring new technologies and cultural exhibits. Attendees could explore various products including footwear, clothing, design bags, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was bustling with visitors, making navigation a challenge, but many attendees took the opportunity to purchase mementos from the event.
Among the many innovative displays, a particularly captivating booth featured a robot resembling a friendly dog, showcasing the advancements in technology. The robot displayed responsive behaviors, such as jumping when a hand was raised and lowering itself upon a gentle tap, highlighting China’s technological progress.
CIFTIS 2024 was an inspirational event filled with energy and new ideas, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among countries in the service industry. Participants appreciated the diverse exhibits and the unique atmosphere, recognizing the endless learning and improvement opportunities available through cooperation.
