China’s CIFTIS 2024: A Global Stage for Trade and Innovation

China is taking significant steps to promote global engagement in the fields of services and trade. For over a decade, the country has organized the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which invites participation from nations worldwide.

The latest installment of this fair took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has emerged as one of the largest service fairs globally, and this year continued that trend.

Eighty-five countries participated this year, showcasing a diverse array of booths and displays, although the absence of Fiji was noted, as their participation could have highlighted their unique culture and opened new trade opportunities.

In addition, ninety journalists from eighty-three countries attended the event, including three representatives from the Pacific Islands, allowing them to cover the fair as part of the China International Press Communication Centre program. This provided them with a platform to share their experiences and stories from CIFTIS with global audiences.

The event was marked by a vibrant atmosphere filled with innovative exhibits ranging from technology to cultural displays, making it a sensory delight. Attendees explored a wide variety of products, including clothing, accessories, toys, and souvenirs, leading to a bustling crowd that made navigation a bit challenging.

One standout feature was a booth showcasing an impressive robot that resembled a friendly dog, demonstrating advanced technology. Attendees were captivated as the robot responded to movements, emphasizing China’s innovations in tech. Alongside this, various services such as digital offerings and eco-friendly tourism were highlighted, illustrating how different nations are leveraging technology and creativity in the service sector.

CIFTIS 2024 left a lasting impression on attendees, providing inspiration and demonstrating the importance of collaboration among countries in the service industry. The event showcased the potential for learning and growth through global partnerships, cementing its reputation as a significant platform for international trade in services.
