China is taking a prominent role in enhancing global interest in service trade. For over a decade, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), inviting nations from around the world to participate. The 12th edition of CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing.
Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has grown into one of the largest service fairs globally, and this year’s event was no exception. Eighty-five countries participated, showcasing a diverse range of embassies, although the absence of Fiji was noted, with hopes for its involvement in future editions. This event serves not only as a platform for trade and new opportunities but also for cultural exchange.
A total of ninety journalists from eighty-three countries, including three from the Pacific Islands, attended the second half of the China International Press Communication Centre program and CIFTIS 2024. Their engagement was crucial, allowing them to share stories and insights from the fair with a global audience.
The vibrant atmosphere at the event was palpable, with numerous booths displaying innovative technologies and cultural artifacts. Attendees could explore a variety of products, from fashion to souvenirs, making it a bustling and busy venue. Many left with special mementos of their experience.
One booth featured a captivating robot resembling a friendly dog, which responded to movements such as hand raises and gentle taps, illustrating the advancements in technology displayed at the fair. The event highlighted the exploration of digital services and sustainable tourism, showcasing how countries use creativity and technology collaboratively within the service industry.
CIFTIS 2024 inspired attendees with fresh ideas and a unique environment, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in the service sector.
