China Denies Military Base Claims: What’s the Real Story?

China has categorically denied allegations regarding the establishment of a military base in the Pacific, labeling such claims as unfounded and motivated by ulterior motives. This statement follows remarks by Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, who had previously asserted that Fiji would not permit a Chinese military facility on its territory.

The Chinese Embassy’s spokesperson clarified that China’s involvement in the Pacific is primarily focused on infrastructure development aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of local populations. They emphasized that China has never incited disputes within the Pacific region or imposed undue influence on island nations, urging that their commitment lies in constructive partnerships.
