A shipment of crucial emergency relief supplies from the Chinese government arrived in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, on Thursday. This 35-ton aid package comprises tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purification equipment, and medical supplies.
This assistance is a direct response to the catastrophic 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila on December 17, resulting in at least 14 fatalities, over 200 injuries, and significant destruction to the city’s infrastructure.
During the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Li Minggang, conveyed that China comprehends the severe damage caused by the earthquake. He stated that China stands in solidarity with Vanuatu and is devoted to supporting the country’s recovery efforts.
Vanuatu’s caretaker Prime Minister, Charlot Salwai, was present at the event and expressed his profound gratitude for China’s prompt assistance, highlighting the essential role of international support in Vanuatu’s recovery journey.
This significant contribution from China exemplifies the spirit of international collaboration and solidarity in times of crisis. It reflects a hopeful outlook for Vanuatu as it embarks on the challenging path to recovery, with support from global partners.
