This tragic event adds to ongoing concerns about domestic violence in Fiji. Similar cases have been highlighted in recent months, prompting the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection to emphasize the urgent need for action against such violence. Nearly two out of three women in Fiji experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, which necessitates enhanced community awareness and resources.
Minister Lynda Tabuya has reiterated the call for collective action, urging families and communities to unite against domestic violence and support initiatives like the Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against All Women and Girls, launched in June 2023.
Efforts to foster safe and respectful environments for all women and girls remain critical as society works to address and reduce the alarming rates of domestic violence.
Further investigations by police are ongoing.
