Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua has voiced his strong support for President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s appeal for chiefs to embody the principles they advocate. During a traditional welcome ceremony hosted by members of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) on Monday, he noted that some chiefs have begun to exploit their responsibilities toward their communities.

Ratu Suliano encouraged fellow chiefs to pursue education that would empower them to serve effectively across various community levels. He interpreted the President’s advice as being sincere and aimed at prioritizing the welfare of the people.

He emphasized his respect for Ratu Naiqama’s character, describing him as a dignified and wise leader with extensive experience in national service. “I fully support the call made by the President,” Ratu Suliano stated. He reflected on their shared experiences in politics, having served together during the SDL era and as Opposition MPs for eight years, where they often discussed crucial issues.

Ratu Suliano expressed approval of the President’s focus on the responsibilities that chiefs must fulfill to lead their communities, advocating for unity and cooperation on matters affecting the populace. “Now, it’s up to us at the GCC to implement this advice so it can positively impact our people,” he affirmed.

This call for unity and leadership is a positive step toward fostering a more accountable and educated body of chiefs, potentially leading to greater community development and empowerment. By upholding these principles, there is hope for a more collaborative future that places the needs of people at the forefront of leadership.
