Chelsea Football Club has officially confirmed an agreement to sign two young talents from Sporting Lisbon, Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo, in a joint deal valued at up to 74.4 million euros (approximately $81.15 million). The deal was announced by the Portuguese club on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old winger, Geovany Quenda, will command a fee of up to 52 million euros, including add-ons. Quenda, who is celebrated for his potential and skill on the pitch, has been a target for several elite clubs, notably Manchester United, due to his impressive performance under the tutelage of coach Ruben Amorim at Sporting. He is slated to join Chelsea in 2026 when he turns 18.
Dario Essugo, also part of this transfer, is a 20-year-old midfielder currently on loan at LaLiga’s Las Palmas. Chelsea has secured Essugo for a fixed fee of 22.2 million euros, with the young player’s move aimed at strengthening the club’s midfield options for the coming season.
Essugo made headlines as Sporting’s youngest player, debuting at just 16 years old in 2021, showcasing his talent at an early age and making him an exciting addition to Chelsea’s squad.
The addition of these players reflects Chelsea’s commitment to investing in youth and building a strong foundation for the future. The club aims to enhance its roster with emerging talents, which is promising for fans looking to the future of the team’s performance.
This strategic recruitment aligns well with recent hopes for Chelsea’s resurgence in the Premier League, where they are currently in contention for a Champions League spot, following a series of strong performances. The young signings may provide the club with the necessary energy and creativity to continue its upward trajectory in upcoming competitions.
