The Melbourne Cup event held at Heineken House in Denarau recently raised funds to support the ‘Run to Give’ initiative, which benefits the Markets for Change program run by UNICEF. This event, organized by Marriott International under the guidance of Neeraj Chadha, has been a vibrant gathering for the past six years, aimed at creating a fun atmosphere while engaging with the local community.

Chadha emphasized the collective effort made by hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, which successfully raised over $30,000 for the initiative. The funds are primarily directed towards empowering women entrepreneurs to develop their small businesses, making a positive impact within their communities.

The Melbourne Cup celebration attracted over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local participants from organizations such as the Nadi Hash Harriers. The event featured various activities including auctions for artistic paintings, performances from the Vou Dance group, and a delightful selection of food and beverages, all designed to foster an enjoyable and charitable experience.

Eva Mcgoon from Papua New Guinea described the event as a great way to relax while contributing to a good cause. The event was generously supported by sponsors including Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC.

This initiative not only highlights the spirit of philanthropy in the Pacific but also underscores the importance of community solidarity in supporting local entrepreneurs. Through events like these, there is hope and encouragement for businesses to flourish, fostering economic growth and empowerment in the region.

The collaborative efforts of the hospitality industry and the community reflect a positive and impactful commitment to social responsibility.
