Chay Fihaki, an emerging rugby talent with Fijian roots, has signed a contract with the Crusaders and Canterbury that will last until 2026.
The versatile back showcased his abilities during the 2024 season, starting in 12 of the 14 Super Rugby Pacific matches. At just 23 years old, he was also selected to represent the Barbarians against Fiji at Twickenham in June and will play for Canterbury in the upcoming 2024 Bunnings Warehouse NPC.
“I’m very pleased to continue my playing career with the Crusaders,” Fihaki said. “This club means so much to me and my family; it’s a special place. To play with this group around me, and with great support from coaches and team management, I’m excited to see where we can get to together over the next few seasons.”
Since making his debut for the Crusaders in 2021, Fihaki took on the 15 jersey at the beginning of the 2024 season, scoring two tries in his first match against the Chiefs, including an impressive 30-meter runaway try. After spending significant time at fullback and demonstrating his skills as a winger and midfielder, he has become a vital member of the starting backline.
