Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry has urged Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to prioritize the needs of flood victims in the Western Division instead of focusing on road inspections. In a recent social media post, Chaudhry expressed concern that the Prime Minister is touring the North for road maintenance while many areas affected by flooding, such as Sigatoka, Nadi, Ra, Ba, and Tavua, lack necessary governmental support.
Chaudhry emphasized the urgency of the situation, reminding the Prime Minister that the cyclone season is just beginning and that any delay in providing aid could worsen the victims’ plight. He called for immediate attention from the relief agencies to ensure that those affected by the disaster receive the assistance they direly need.
This call to action underscores the importance of responsive governance in times of crisis. As Fiji navigates through its current challenges, the focus on vulnerable communities will be critical. While the Prime Minister’s attention is currently on infrastructure, it is essential that the government finds a balance between maintenance and emergency response to effectively serve its citizens.
By prioritizing the needs of those affected by natural disasters, the government can foster a sense of hope and resilience among communities as they begin to recover and rebuild.
