Former Prime Minister and Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, has expressed his approval of the removal of Lynda Tabuya from her position as Minister for Women, Social Welfare, and Child Protection due to confirmed reports of her gross misconduct. Chaudhry believes that the actions taken against Tabuya warrant further consequences, specifically that she should not continue as a Member of Parliament.

Chaudhry further commented that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka missed an opportunity to avoid significant embarrassment for his government and the People’s Alliance Party by not addressing similar allegations against Tabuya during her official visit to Australia several months ago, which led to her stepping down as the deputy leader of the PAP.

He emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of Parliament, urging fellow MPs to address the situation promptly. “If the MPs themselves have any respect for the sanctity and decorum of Parliament, they should have her referred immediately to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for her expulsion from the House,” he stated. Additionally, he called for a police investigation regarding potential drug and pornography offences related to Tabuya’s actions.

This situation highlights the ongoing commitment to maintaining accountability and ethical standards within the political sphere. The call for a thorough investigation and the immediate action taken by Chaudhry demonstrates a proactive approach towards upholding parliamentary integrity. The hope remains that such actions can lead to a more respectful and responsible governance in Fiji moving forward.

In summary, Mahendra Chaudhry has urged for the expulsion and further investigation into Lynda Tabuya following her dismissal from ministerial duties due to serious misconduct.
