Former Prime Minister and leader of the Fiji Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry, has expressed his approval regarding the removal of Lynda Tabuya from her position as Minister for Women, Social Welfare, and Child Protection, following serious allegations of misconduct.

Chaudhry emphasized that Tabuya should not only face dismissal from her ministerial role but also be removed from her position as a Member of Parliament. He criticized Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for not addressing Tabuya’s earlier indiscretions, particularly during her trip to Australia, which had already led to her ousting as deputy leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP).

Chaudhry questioned Tabuya’s continued presence in Parliament, insisting that it would be disrespectful to the institution if she remained. He called for her immediate referral to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for potential expulsion and believes that the matter should also be investigated by law enforcement regarding allegations of drug use and pornography-related offences.

This situation reflects ongoing concerns about accountability and integrity within the Fijian government. Addressing these misconducts is vital for restoring public trust in political institutions, which can ultimately lead to a more responsible and transparent governance system in Fiji.

In summary, Chaudhry’s strong stance highlights the importance of maintaining ethical standards in political roles, fostering a hopeful outlook for potential reforms and greater scrutiny of public officials in the future.
