The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer accused of multiple instances of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa reported that the alleged incidents took place between 2019 and 2023, with the victim being assaulted at various locations within the Central and Eastern Divisions.
ACP Waqa noted that the case was managed by the Sexual Offenses Unit within the Criminal Investigations Department. After the investigation concluded, independent legal advice was obtained from the ODPP.
Based on this advice from the ODPP, the accused has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of an individual aged between 13 and 16 years.
