A police officer who was initially facing 13 sexual offence charges now has his charges reduced to nine counts. The 40-year-old man, who is married and the father of three, was served with the revised charges by the State. Allegations state that he committed these offences against his cousin when she was just 13 years old.
In court today, he pleaded not guilty to all nine counts as sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions. DPP lawyer Monisha Naidu requested more time to finalize the pretrial conference, while Joji Cakau represented the defence. Both parties are set to meet soon to complete the pre-trial arrangements.
The officer’s bail has been extended, and the case is scheduled to return to court on November 5.
