Labasa Football’s coach, Alvin Chand, finds himself in a pivotal moment as he leads his team into the Bic Fiji FACT tournament. This week marks his first major tournament as head coach, a transition he describes as a fulfillment of a dream that has been nearly a decade in the making. Having spent nine years with the Labasa Association, primarily coaching youth teams, Chand is ready to step up to the senior level.

As excitement mounts, Chand acknowledges the blend of nerves and anticipation that accompanies this new challenge, sharing that he is managing the pressure with support from other officials. A critical part of their preparation focuses on enhancing the players’ fitness, specifically agility and stamina, given the demanding tournament format of three games in three days.

“Given that it’s three games in a compact schedule, mental and physical readiness is key for us,” Chand emphasizes. Labasa, currently leading the league, is under pressure but is leveraging this as a chance to build mental resilience among the players. He warns them against complacency, reminding them that tournament play can differ significantly from regular league matches.

Labasa’s tournament schedule includes matches against Suva on Friday at 7 pm, Nadi on Saturday at 4 pm, and Nadroga on Sunday at 11 am, all happening at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Fans can look forward to live commentary during the matches on Radio Fiji Two.

This tournament could serve as a defining moment for both Chand and the Labasa team, offering an opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially fortify their standing in Fiji’s football landscape. The enthusiasm surrounding the team, combined with the community’s support, sets a promising tone as they approach these critical fixtures.

The positivity surrounding the team reflects a broader hope for growth and success in Fiji’s football scene. With dedicated preparation and strong community backing, Labasa has the potential to excel in this tournament, igniting further interest and support for football in the region.
