The Mid Central Volleyball Association, the defending champions in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the upcoming Easter Volleyball Championship, are gearing up to retain their titles this weekend. The association received a significant boost from Lynda Tabuya, a member of parliament and the founder of the Lynda Tabuya Foundation, who provided brand-new uniforms for the association’s six teams, consisting of three men’s and three women’s squads.
Tabuya emphasized the importance of supporting grassroots sports, stating, “National issues only matter when they make an impact locally. Supporting grassroots sports like volleyball helps young people choose positive activities.” Her foundation’s involvement marks its first event, highlighting the potential of sports to shape lives and foster community engagement.
Nemaia Koto, a board member of the Mid Central Volleyball Association, praised the timely support from Tabuya, noting its significance for the players. “This is our first partnership with her foundation, and it means a lot to the players,” he said. The teams have been diligently training for months at various venues, including the Fiji National University gym, and are determined to reach the finals again in both divisions.
As the tournament approaches, excitement is building, with Mid Central 3 slated to face Lautoka Green in their opening match, while Mid Central 2 will take on Raiwai 1 and Mid Central 1 faces Suva Red. The motivation from the new uniforms and support from local leaders is expected to energize the teams as they aim to defend their titles.
In the context of community sports, this initiative reflects a broader commitment to fostering youth development through positive engagement in activities like volleyball. The anticipation surrounding the Easter Volleyball Championship is not just about competition but also about inspiring future generations and uniting communities through sports. With the ongoing collaborations and emphasis on grassroots initiatives, the future looks promising for volleyball in the region.
