The New Zealand Gujarati Sports and Cultural Association (NZGSCA) recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary with an impressive awards night filled with joy and recognition. Taking place on June 14, this significant event honored various achievements within the realms of sports, culture, and community service, underscoring the association’s role as one of the largest Gujarati organizations in New Zealand.

A standout moment of the evening was the presence of Waisale Serevi, the legendary Sevens rugby player, who served as the Chief Guest. His inspiring speech about hope, resilience, and unity resonated deeply with attendees, marking a highlight of the event. NZGSCA President Ritesh Raniga expressed admiration for Serevi’s impact, stating he was “blown away” by the connection he established with the audience.

The awards night also recognized the winners of sports competitions held throughout the year and paid tribute to key individuals who have significantly contributed to the growth of the NZGSCA since its inception. Adding to the evening’s allure was a fashion show sponsored by Roop Darshan, which captivated the audience with creative displays.

Furthermore, the association showcased its strong commitment to community support through a charity auction that successfully raised over $14,000 for Hato Hone St John and St John Fiji. This reflects NZGSCA’s dedication to giving back and highlights a thriving community spirit among its members.

Events like these emphasize the importance of cultural heritage and community engagement, illustrating how sports and social initiatives can foster unity and enrichment. The NZGSCA continues to play a pivotal role in uplifting the Gujarati community in New Zealand, promising a positive impact for years to come.
