The Suva City Council has approved the traditional flower dispersal ceremony, known as Ganga Pooja, taking place today after 12:00 PM as part of the Ram Naumi festivities. In light of this event, the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has called upon all participants to adhere to strict guidelines to protect the environment during the rituals performed at sea.
National Secretary Pundit Krishneel Tiwari emphasized the importance of using only natural, biodegradable materials for the ceremonial offerings and urged devotees to avoid discarding plastic and non-degradable items into the ocean. Designated bins will be provided for proper waste disposal along the seaside.
To maintain order and ensure the safety of the event, police presence will be heightened in coastal areas designated for the rituals. Tiwari reminded followers that while local approvals might vary across the Northern and Western Divisions, all devotees are encouraged to follow the same environmental and safety practices.
He reiterated the significance of celebrating Ram Naumi with a spirit of devotion, discipline, and dignity, highlighting the community’s responsibility to protect nature as part of their dharmic duty. This event reflects a broader commitment within the community to merge spirituality with environmental care, fostering a culture of responsibility and enhancing the communal experience during these important observances.
The proactive measures being embraced during the Ganga Pooja not only honor religious traditions but also resonate with the growing awareness and advocacy for environmental stewardship within the Hindu community. The hope is that by aligning sacred practices with ecological mindfulness, participants can deepen their spiritual experience while reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding the natural world.
