Over 30 midwives at Labasa Hospital were honored for their dedicated service and compassionate care. Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology Doctor Saiasi Caginidaveta emphasized their crucial role, stating that midwives form the foundation of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit.
Doctor Caginidaveta outlined how midwives respond to urgent obstetric emergencies and provide essential support to women facing domestic violence and the challenges posed by natural disasters. He expressed profound gratitude towards midwives, thanking them for their contributions and emphasizing that without them, the department would struggle to function.
The theme for this year’s observance, “Midwives: Critical in every crisis,” not only serves as a tribute but also underscores the necessity of continued support and investment in the midwifery profession, especially given the rising demands on healthcare systems amid crisis.
