The High Commissioner of Fiji to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, emphasized the vital contributions of seniors and the importance of Fijian culture during the joint celebration of the International Day for Older Persons and Fiji Day.
Addressing attendees at the A1 Event Centre in Papatoetoe, he expressed gratitude to the Fiji Girmit Foundation for fostering unity among seniors.
“Fiji Day embodies not only a celebration of our rich heritage but also highlights the resilience of the Fijian community in New Zealand. Your commitment enhances our cultural tapestry and fortifies the wider New Zealand society,” stated Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
As Fiji Day approaches on October 19 at Mangere Centre Park, he encouraged the community to embrace their cultural identity and recognize the strength of Fijians in New Zealand, acknowledging the value they bring to the broader society.
He urged the youth to respect their heritage and uphold the legacy of their ancestors.
Mr. Kubuabola also called for solidarity with those in Fiji, advocating for charitable support and connections to their homeland.
The Fiji Missions, through initiatives like Fiji Day, aims to strengthen relationships with the Fijian diaspora while promoting national pride and unity.
