The Nausori Education District held an awards ceremony last night, recognizing the accomplishments of all 289 schools in the region, including 143 Early Childhood Education centers, 119 primary schools, and 27 notable secondary schools.
This awards night was a groundbreaking event in Fiji, aimed at celebrating various achievements in academics, sports participation, extracurricular activities, and health-promoting initiatives among schools.
Marika Baleca, Senior Education Advisor for the Nausori Education District, commended the teamwork of teachers, students, and parents in creating supportive learning environments that foster both education and personal development.
In an interview with Fiji One News, Baleca highlighted the district’s commitment to transforming underperforming schools, referred to as “Hope schools,” with a goal of achieving academic excellence by the following year. He noted that the number of schools falling below performance standards has decreased to 13.
Many participants expressed their appreciation for the recognition, with several school principals stating that the event served as a motivation boost for both students and staff. Rejnish Dayal, Vice Principal of Waidina College, Naitasiri, remarked, “When people see the reward, they work harder. I believe this is a fantastic initiative.”
The Awards Night included various categories to honor schools excelling in academics, sports, and other extracurricular endeavors, as well as those that promote health and well-being among students. Baleca mentioned, “We are distributing numerous awards to schools that achieve a 100 percent pass rate in examinations. We hope this recognition enhances their motivation to reach new heights.”
The event not only celebrated the accomplishments of the past year but also aimed to encourage ongoing excellence and innovation in the education sector for years to come.
