Shane Smith, the chief executive of Westpac Fiji, recently marked an impressive milestone of 40 years with the bank, making history as the first local CEO in over 120 years. Smith’s journey began as an 18-year-old at the bank’s Suva branch, and since then, he has committed his career to serving Westpac customers.

Reflecting on his tenure, Smith expressed immense gratitude for the remarkable transformations he has witnessed at Westpac, highlighting the bank’s significant contributions not only to its customers but also to the Fijian community and its economy. “It brings me great joy to see the amount of work we do in the community through our staff Volunteer program, free Financial Literacy programs, and the Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant, which has been active for over 13 years,” he stated.

In a positive indication of the bank’s future, Westpac Group reaffirmed its commitment to the Pacific region, including Fiji and Papua New Guinea. Smith noted that the group’s faith in the Fijian economy and its robust financial markets bodes well for the bank’s prospects, with further investments planned for 2025.
