The Fiji Police Force commemorated its 150th anniversary during a ceremony at the Nasova Police ground in Suva on Friday. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua addressed the gathering, reflecting on the lengthy history from Nasova, Levuka to Suva and honoring those who paved the way.
The celebration included a parade featuring officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, which began at the Totogo Police Station and concluded at the academy.
Minister Tikoduadua highlighted the commendable service provided by the Fiji Police Force over the past 150 years, acknowledging the dedication and resilience of its members. He emphasized that the officers have worked diligently under challenging circumstances, often without recognition, while striving to maintain community safety and uphold the law.
The event also recognized the contribution of the Fiji Corrections Service, celebrating the dedication of those who have served in both institutions. The Fiji Police Force was officially established as per a notice published in the Royal Gazette on October 10, 1874, with the first officers appointed, marking a significant milestone in the country’s history.
