Deuba District School recently celebrated 118 years of education and cultural significance, standing as a testament to the commitment towards learning in the Deuba region. Established in 1906, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest educational institutions in the Serua province.

Reama Pareti, a respected educator and alumnus, highlighted the school’s role in imparting not only secular education but also traditional knowledge that is crucial to the community’s identity. The school’s legacy was evident during its recent awards ceremony, where Pareti shared valuable insights about DDS’s historical impact on local children, including her own memories as a student, notably from 1969.

Deuba District School primarily serves the tikina of Deuba and surrounding villages, catering to the educational needs of children from diverse backgrounds, including those from single-parent households. Despite the challenges they face, Mrs. Pareti observed that a strong foundation in iTaukei culture provided by the older generations often benefits these students. She underscored the importance of blending cultural teachings with modern educational practices, thereby nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.

The school is actively working on a five-year plan to enhance its facilities, including the construction of a multi-purpose hall and initiatives aimed at improving literacy rates among students. According to Pareti, these developments are critical for maintaining the school’s pull factor and ensuring that it remains a beacon for the community.

Additionally, Reverend Aisea Rarokoliwa addressed the students, urging them to uphold values of honesty and integrity in the face of modern societal challenges, particularly those posed by technology and social media influences. He recounted a personal story highlighting the importance of moral character, reinforcing the belief that truth stems from a higher spiritual source.

The future indeed looks promising for Deuba District School, with dedicated efforts from the faculty and the community to provide quality education enriched with cultural heritage. The school’s commitment to fostering both academic excellence and traditional values signifies a bright path ahead for its students and the wider community.

By blending educational progress with cultural preservation, Deuba District School stands ready to nurture the next generation of leaders, embodying hope and resilience in an evolving world.
