Cecil Browne Takes the Helm: New Leadership for Fiji’s FCCC!

Cecil Browne has been appointed the new chairman of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), following his candidacy with the People’s Alliance in the 2022 General Election. He leads a newly structured board that now includes members Kelera Gadolo, Dr. Keshmeer Makun, and Adimaibole Waqainabete. Former chairman Isikeli Tikoduadua and deputy chair Romil Patel will retain their roles on the board but in different capacities.

Browne brings extensive experience from the financial sector, having held key positions such as Deputy General Manager at ANZ Fiji and General Manager of Corporate and Treasury at Bank South Pacific Fiji. Expressing gratitude for his appointment, he highlighted the urgent need for effective competition and consumer protection, particularly as rising living costs pose significant issues for Fijians.

In his first remarks as chairman, Browne stated, “We recognize that cost of living concerns are at the forefront, and FCCC will prioritize this area.” His emphasis on collective expertise and a commitment to address emerging challenges signals a proactive approach to the commission’s responsibilities.

FCCC’s Chief Executive Joel Abraham welcomed the new board and noted the importance of their diverse backgrounds in strengthening the commission’s mission to create a fair and competitive marketplace. He expressed confidence that this new leadership would empower the FCCC to effectively serve consumers and businesses across Fiji.

This leadership change is viewed as a hopeful opportunity for the FCCC to enhance its focus on consumer rights and fair market practices. As the new board embarks on its mission under Browne’s leadership, there is optimism that they will implement effective strategies to address consumers’ evolving needs and foster a more equitable economic environment for all Fijians.

In summary, Browne’s appointment is seen as a positive development for the FCCC, promising fresh perspectives and commitment to improving consumer protection and competition regulations in Fiji. The board’s collective vision is poised to deliver meaningful change that benefits the entire Fijian community.
