Caution Urged: Motorists Face New Dangers on Nadi Streets

Spread the love

Motorists in Nadi are being urged to exercise caution while driving on Queens Road in Namaka due to the presence of street dwellers who have been observed begging in the roadway. Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa highlighted the growing concern and emphasized the importance of slowing down as a preventive measure against potential road accidents involving these individuals.

SSP Vaisewa pointed out that during recent operations, assistance was provided to return some of these street dwellers to their families; however, they have often returned to the streets shortly after. He also noted that many of these individuals may be struggling with mental health issues, which can complicate the situation further.

As a precaution, SSP Vaisewa urged the public to be vigilant and considerate, especially when they notice beggars approaching traffic queues. He reassured that if any obstruction or illegal activities occur, the police will take necessary action.

In light of these circumstances, it is crucial for the community to work together. Collaboration between law enforcement and local agencies could lead to more sustainable solutions for the street dwelling population, providing them with better support and possibly reducing their need to beg in potentially dangerous situations.

The call for community action inspires hope that with mutual cooperation, a safer and more compassionate environment can be created for both motorists and vulnerable individuals on the streets.
