Caution Against Viber Groups: A Threat to Road Safety?

Spread the love

Motorists have been warned against the creation of Viber groups that share information on police traffic checkpoints and speed radar locations. This trend is seen as an attempt to evade law enforcement and poses significant risks to road safety, as highlighted by Acting Divisional Police Commander for the Northern region, Superintendent of Police (SP) Eroni Soqosoqo.

SP Soqosoqo noted that drivers using these alerts may slow down when approaching checkpoints but often resume high speeds afterward, which can lead to accidents. He emphasized that such actions are disruptive to police operations and that individuals involved will face accountability.

In collaboration with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the police are working to enhance road safety and remove reckless drivers from the streets. As the New Year approaches, police in the Northern Division are staying vigilant through foot patrols and road operations to ensure public safety.

The LTA also highlighted driver fatigue as a significant contributor to road accidents in Fiji. Extended periods of driving without breaks can increase the risk of accidents. Therefore, the LTA advises motorists to take regular breaks during long journeys and encourages passengers to voice concerns if they notice any signs of fatigue, such as drowsiness or erratic driving.

To combat road accidents and improve safety, the LTA urges drivers to adopt a “Stop, Revive, and Survive” approach. It is crucial to refrain from actions that interfere with police and LTA efforts to ensure safer roads for all.

In summary, the police and LTA are committed to enhancing road safety and urge all motorists to act responsibly, particularly during the busy holiday season. By prioritizing safety measures and collaborating with law enforcement, we can contribute to a safer driving environment for everyone.

This situation highlights the importance of community cooperation and individual responsibility in promoting road safety. By following these guidelines and being vigilant on the roads, there is hope for a decrease in accidents and improved overall road safety.
