Cathy Wong has been elected as the new president of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) during its Annual General Assembly, marking a pivotal moment in her career. Wong achieved a decisive victory in the first round of voting, outpacing Rajesh Singh from the Fiji National Rugby League and outgoing president Makarita Lenoa, who had held the position for seven years.
In addition to Wong’s election, the assembly saw key leadership positions filled. Ajay Ballu from archery, Inoke Niubalavu from baseball, and Lucy Erasito from swimming were elected as vice presidents following a rigorous seven rounds of voting. Petero Vatu was elected unopposed as vice president of finance, while Prem Narayan will serve a one-year term as Independent Legal Representative, bolstering the organization’s legal support.
Key governance roles were also established, with Dr. Robin Mitchell and Vidhya Lakhan elected as Trustees, accompanied by Munroe Leys as the Honorary Solicitor and KPMG appointed as the Honorary Auditor. These appointments are aimed at ensuring strong oversight and effective management of the organization.
In her acceptance speech, Wong expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust bestowed upon her and detailed her vision for strengthening relationships with national federations. She reiterated her commitment to fostering a collaborative environment that aims to enhance Fiji’s performance in international sports. Wong’s previous experience as a Board Director for Women’s Rugby at the Fiji Rugby Union is expected to provide valuable insights and leadership as she embarks on this new journey.
