Caroline Pickering will officially assume the role of director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) starting January 1. Her appointment comes highly recommended by the National Anti-Money Laundering Council.

Pickering has previously served as the manager of policy and compliance at Fiji FIU, succeeding Razim Buksh, who retired earlier in 2023. Governor Arif Ali expressed confidence in Ms. Pickering’s capabilities, stating she is well-equipped to guide the FIU through its next growth phase.

With over 25 years of experience, Ms. Pickering brings significant expertise and strategic leadership to the role. Since joining the FIU in 2006, she has played a crucial part in shaping Fiji’s regulatory and supervisory framework aimed at tackling money laundering and financial crime.

This transition in leadership reflects a commitment to strengthening the integrity of Fiji’s financial systems, particularly as the landscape becomes more digital and complex. It’s a hopeful step as the FIU continues to enhance its effectiveness in combating financial irregularities in the country.

In summary, Caroline Pickering’s promotion to director of the FIU signifies both continuity and progress in the fight against financial crime in Fiji, demonstrating the nation’s dedication to maintaining a robust financial regulatory environment.
