Caroline Pickering has been appointed as the new director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), effective January 1. Her selection came upon the recommendation of the National Anti-Money Laundering Council. Previously serving as the manager of policy and compliance within the Fiji FIU, she succeeds Razim Buksh, who retired in 2023.
Governor Arif Ali praised Ms. Pickering, stating that she is well-suited to guide the FIU during its next phase of growth. With over 25 years of professional experience and strategic leadership skills, Ms. Pickering is expected to enhance the unit’s ability to navigate Fiji’s evolving digital financial environment.
Ms. Pickering joined the FIU in 2006 and has played a key role in shaping Fiji’s regulatory and supervisory framework aimed at combating money laundering and financial crime.
This leadership change signals a continued commitment to strengthening Fiji’s financial regulatory landscape, particularly as digital finance continues to grow. Ms. Pickering’s extensive experience suggests a positive trajectory for the FIU as it adapts to new challenges in the financial sector.
