Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old participant at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, believes that awareness and compassion are key in the fight against addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she is one of seven contestants uniting to address drug addiction during this vibrant community event.

“During the Coral Coast Carnival, we come together to combat drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated. She emphasized that while addiction affects many, their mission centers on hope, recovery, and support. This marks her first experience in a pageant, which she sees as a valuable opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause.

Through raising awareness and empathy, she hopes to help individuals struggling with addiction find a path toward recovery and a healthier future. “Together, we are stronger in this fight,” she added.

Jiya credits her supportive parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who both work in the tourism industry, for her journey. Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, she attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary, noted that the carnival has progressed over the past four years, with the crowning ceremony set for this Saturday.

This event not only serves as a celebration of community spirit but also highlights the importance of addressing social issues like addiction. By participating in such initiatives, young individuals like Jiya are paving the way for a brighter future free from the grips of drug dependency, amplifying messages of hope and unity within the community.
